Elijah Mikaelson is an Original Vampire and the oldest of the Mikaelson Siblings. He is classed as the noble one and doesn’t like to cause conflict if he doesn’t have too, making him completely different to Klaus and Rebekah. He sees the good in people and likes to help troubled souls out, having an inparticular soft spot for damsels in distress. When he first became a Vampire he was reluctant to make the transition, wanting to die instead of becoming something that was forced upon him, however he was convinced by Rebekah to turn as she couldn’t bear seeing any of her family dying.
Elijah has spent many of his a thousand years following Klaus, watching out for him as any big brother would and making sure he didn’t get himself into too much trouble. However, he spent some more of his fair share of years desiccated at Klaus' hand, his brother has a tendency to do this to his siblings when they pissed him off. Elijah has a small soft spot for Elena Gilbert because of her exact looks of Katerina Petrova and Tatia Petrova, two women whom he had come to care a little too much for over the years.
He moves back to New Orleans along with Klaus and Rebekah and the two of them find their old home together, eventually taking over the Quarter and having it back as their rightful home. Elijah is the second oldest Original now that his father has been resurrected, and the second most powerful being next to his half-brother hybrid, Klaus. He begins to develop romantic feelings for Hayley but doesn’t like to act upon them, knowing that he’s playing a dangerous game considering that Hayley is carrying the child of Klaus’s after a one night stand. He will do anything to protect his family and has a very powerful aura about him. He does not like to be challenged. Currently he is in charge of getting the factions of New Orleans to cooperate together as Klaus doesn’t seem to be that interested.

Serious. Honorable. Noble. These are all words that can be used to describe Elijah Mikaelson in a nutshell. He is the keeper of the vow he and his siblings made 1,000 years ago. the one to keep Klaus in line, and to make sure Rebekah and Kol don’t cause too much mischief and mayhem. The time he spend keeping his family in line leaves little time for Elijah to focus on his own happiness, far too focused on ensuring his family find theirs, and that his favorite brother (Nikluas) has his redemption.
While Elijah is a man of honour, he does have a darker side. He holds little patience and shows no mercy to those who threaten to harm his family, taking the vow they swore to each other over a decade ago very seriously. Family above all. Always and Forever. If anyone were to threaten his family, he wouldn't hesitate to tear their hearts from their chest and has even been inclined to behead on his more boisterous days. This is applied very heavily to his niece, Hope, who he has sworn to protect, no matter the cost. He'd give his own life to keep her safe.
